Claire's Journey
Just before starting the 4th grade, Claire was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
In July of 2014, Claire's life changed…being diagnosed with leukemia meant many years of chemotherapy and many health struggles. She had chemo on a daily basis for almost 2 1/2 years. These years were filled with blood transfusions, bone marrow aspirations, spinal taps, and various procedures necessary to fight blood cancer-all until she completed treatment in September 2016. Relapse is always a possibility, but Claire is such a positive person and does not look at life as anything but wonderful. It was a long battle that took a lot out of the family. There were miracles, many miracles, along the way. Even in the hardest times, faith carried them through.
During long treatment days, families fighting childhood cancer spend a lot of time getting to know one another. And because cancer is a very expensive diagnosis, Claire's family met many people who could not afford it. With holidays approaching in 2014, Claire's family wanted to ease some of the holiday stresses of preparing meals for these families. Each holiday, meals were given out to families who were fighting childhood cancer. Claire's Go Fund Me account has been completely dedicated to providing meals, parking passes, and ordering lunches during treatment for these sweet families.
Claire is NED now (no evidence of disease.) Her immune system will be compromised for at least 18 months after treatment ended. She continues to get immune-boosting therapy every month until her blood counts show her immune system back to normal. She is a happy 7th grades who loves math and science. She hopes to join the medical force to help children fight cancer when she grows up.
